sewing and some wet on wet watercolor

The other day L and I took a trip to the fabric store. They were having a 40% off sale and I wanted to buy cheap fabric to practice making her some pajama pants before I buy some pricy Ana Maria Horner (folksy flannel) fabric to make her winter pajamas. I got the free tutorial from here They turned out great! and  it was very easy. I finished them in less than 1/2 hour

.

While I was choosing some pajama fabric, L brought this fat quarter fabric to me and said "ooh, pretty mommy"

The fabric reminded me of her wet on wet watercolor paintings, So I bought it for her to make a skirt for her upcoming birthday

Saturdays at the farmers market

I've decided that for the rest of the summer our Saturday dinners will be made mostly from the items I purchase at the farmers market on Saturday mornings

Today I purchased
Cranberry walnut bread
garlic mint cheese spread
onion
red grapes
(celery was store bought)

I shredded a cooked chicken ( I buy a organic chicken about every other week and try to make 3 meals out of it. I cook it shredded it and store it in the freezer) Then I added chopped celery, onion, and grapes to the chicken and mixed in the garlic mint cheese spread until it was moist. Next I spread it on the the cranberry walnut bread for a delicious sandwich

For a side salad I purchased plum tomatoes fresh mozzarela and kalamata olives

Summer nature table

Now that summers almost over, here is a picture of our summer nature table. The silk scarves used to be my husband's mom back in the 60's I have a box full of them that Wee enjoys playing with.

Our nature walk

"Every child should have mud pies, grasshoppers, water-bugs, tadpoles, frogs and mud-turtles, elderberries, wild strawberries, acorns, chestnuts, trees to climb, brooks to wade in, water-lilies, woodchucks, bats, bees, butterflies, various animals to pet, hayfields, pine-cones, rocks to roll, sand, snakes, huckleberries and hornets; and any child who has been deprived of these has been deprived of the best part of his education."
Quote from Luther Burbank

We've been going on lots of nature walks this summmer. Today I finnaly brought my camera. L loves nature walks, We just take our time, follow her and let her go wherever she wants as long as it's not dangerous of course.

First we stopped at the butterfly house to say hello

Finnaly a successful sourdough starter!

I finnaly had a successful sourdough starter using this starter pack

A nice bubbly yeasty starter!    After feeding it for 7 days
(7th day)
It's a very long rise time. Yesterday it took almost all day of rising with 2- (10 min) knead times. Durning the 2nd knead I had chopped garlic and shredded chedder cheese. This morning I finnaly was able to bake it.
It came out so yummy

This is how much Lilly and I ate today before daddy even came home from work. We'll enjoy the rest of it with the tri -tip he just popped in the oven!
